Lava Rock

Palmer sells four sizes and types of volcanic stone: 1/4″ Minus Lava Sand, 3/8″ Lava Rock, 1/2″ to 1″ Lava Rock, 1/2″ to 1″ Black Lava Rock, and 1″ to 2-1/2″ Lava Rock. Lava Rock is typically a deep red, maroon, or black-colored pumice-like material. It is very light, weighing approximately 1,300 to 1,500 pounds per cubic yard. Alternatively, 1 ton equals approximately 1.33 to 1.53 cubic yards. Lava Rock is a permanent, lightweight, and easy-to-apply volcanic stone that won’t rot, blow away, or affect soil composition. Its natural beauty enhances floral and garden arrangements and is suitable for both indoor and outdoor use. Lava Sand weighs about 0.9 tons per cubic yard and is a key ingredient in our Safeco Field Warning Track Cinders.

    1/4″ Lava Sand

Our Lava Sand or 1/4″ Lava Rock is ideal for pathways and high-traffic areas where a lightweight product is needed and drainage is desired. The finer Lava Sand stays put and offers a nice visual contrast to lawns and greenery due to its maroon hue.

    3/8″ Lava Rock

Our 3/8″ Lava Rock is an excellent option for a water-permeable decorative ground cover that retains moisture and esthetic contrasts to shrubs, trees, plants, and flowers in beds and walkways.

  • Handful of 1/2″ to 1″ Lava Rock for scale

    1/2″ to 1″ Lava Rock

Our 1/2″ to 1″ Lava Rock, a deep maroon product, is the perfect mix of smaller to a bit larger chunks of vibrantly colored dark pumice. This product is an ideal material for moisture retention over the top of soils while not distracting from the horticultural elements in your garden.

    1″ to 2-1/2″ Lava Rock

Our 1″ to 2-1/2″ Lava Rock is ideal for that bright, contrasting decorative element at the base of any large or small shrubbery beds. Deep in maroon color, this product is often found in raised beds and surrounding trees and large flowering bushes. Lava Rock is easy to maintain and perfect for areas that tend to dry out quickly.
